2006/2007
This year the President of the Samaritan Club is Shannon Kirkpatrick.  She would like to see more outreach in the community and practice showing God's love in everyday life.  Currently this is being done on campus in small ways such as cleaning up trash during school and at sport events after school.  In the community the Club helped at the Mercy Me concert by ushering people to their seats.  The went Christmas Caroling at Brandel Manor and sang to the residents.

One large project the Samaritan Club has done this year was the creation of a "Strengthen" t-shirt designed by Wesley Wilson which was sold for $10 and the proceeds went to the American Cancer Society.

A future goal is working directly with the City of Turlock with projects that will benefit the community.  Another desire is to help Salvation Army box food for the needy.

Background Info on Samaritan Club
Samaritan Club was started by a student (Josh MacLaren) at the beginning of the 2004 school year.  Josh was wanting a school based service club that would be willing to sacrifice their time to serve the Turlock community.  The name of the club, “Samaritan Club” comes from the story in the Bible about the Good Samaritan.  The club is made up of the students on campus and organized by them.

The goal of Samaritan Club is to share God’s love with others in the community through service work, and they have accomplished this in a variety of ways.  Samaritan Club was able to average about one project a month last year, this included helping individuals as well as larger organizations (city of Turlock, Samaritan House.. etc..).  A few projects that students participated in were:  Painting backstops at Pedretti, putting sealant on play structures, working with Turlock Together to package food for homeless people, as well as helping an elderly woman move furniture to her mother’s room in a nursing home.

During the club meeting there is time for prayer, ideas & planning.  Josh is president of the club and encourages full participation from each club member.  A difference student each month organizes an event.  The group talks about last month's past event and then discusses the upcoming events.

Updated Information on Samaritan Club

On October 8, we had our first service project of the year.  Because of the great turnout and participation by students we were able to raise around $1,000 with 2 fundraisers (a car wash, and Jog-a-thon).  All of the funds raised go to the Salvation Army which will send the money to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.

The next project will take place in the month of November; it is not yet decided what we will do.  Anyone who is interested in Samaritan Club is welcome to participate.  We are excited about what God has in store for Samaritan Club this year,

Samaritan Club was a success last year and this year there are a great number of participants, the club runs on student participation so it is important that we have as many people involved as possible.  We have had great club turnouts, averaging 25-35 students a gathering!   If you are a TCHS student and are interested in what is going on in Samaritan Club come to our monthly meeting on the first Wednesday of the month.
