The Great commission given to us by our Lord Jesus Christ is to communicate the gospel to every living creature. One of the most important skills necessary to accomplish this task is the ability to speak one or more foreign languages.
The Language Department seeks to provide students with the opportunity to learn to speak, read, write, and understand a foreign language. These language skills can be used not only in communicating the gospel, but also in travel, in numerous careers, and in developing friendships with those people at home who speak another language.
Language, however, is also inextricably bound to culture. Therefore, it is also important to teach students about the various aspects of the culture of the people whose language they are learning.
It is the desire of the department to show the language student that although cultures are different, each has something valuable to contribute to mankind as a whole, and to each student's own personal life.
Because we believe that God created each man differently, and that language and cultures are expressions of those differences, the department desires to enable students to bridge the gap between themselves and others through the ability to communicate in another language and through the appreciation and understanding of another culture.
