LADY EAGLES WIN FIRST EVER SECTION CHAMPIONSHIP!
On November 13th the Turlock Christian Lady Eagle volleyball team defeated Woodland
Christian 3-1 to earn the Sac-Joaquin Section championship for division 5 schools
at UC Davis. The section crown in volleyball is the first for our volleyball
program and joins the softball teams of ’97 and ’98 as the only teams to win
section championships in school history.
Junior Jill Baker and Sophomore Lyndzie Spycher set school records with 23 kills
each in the championship match which avenged a 3-2 heart breaking loss to the
same Woodland Christian squad in last year’s section championship match. The
Lady Eagles won the first game of the match 25-17 behind the tremendous hitting
of Spycher, setting of Michelle Reagor, and defensive play and serving of Quimi
Alaniz. TC dropped the second game of the match in a closely contested 26-24
game. Late in the 3rd game the momentum turned for good in the favor of
the Lady Eagles as middle blockers Alicen Falkenberg and Whitney Davis forced
the hitters from Woodland to adjust their attacks and Jill Baker began to heat
up from the left side on their way to a 25-22 victory. The
final game was all TC with every player on the court contributing in a dominant
25-17 win and the section championship!
As the Lady Eagles celebrate their incredible accomplishment they also look
to the future as only one player will graduate this year (senior Whitney Davis)
and the addition of several players from a JV squad that was also undefeated
in league play. The volleyball tradition at Turlock Christian continues to grow
as each year the program grows and goes on to new levels!
