Community Service Project FORM

2008-09 School Year Graduation Requirement

Turlock Christian Schools’ Community Service Projects’ mission statement is to develop community servants who are endeavoring to use their gifts and skills to benefit others.  Many of our students already give of their time to help others in our community and in many other places around the world.

This program requires all high school students to take part in community service as a graduation requirement.  The benefits of this program are endless.  Not only are people being helped, but the students who give of themselves will be blessed.  Many schools, public and private, have a similar type of program which is a graduation requirement.  This program takes place outside of the regular school day.  May God use this program to bring glory to Himself.

The process by which accountability of hours served is as follows:

1.   The student has an adult supervisor sign the community service form indicating the date(s) and hour(s) served.

2.   The student gives form(s) to his/her Bible teacher who will keep track of hours served.

Requirements (minimum hours for *Bible Credit per year)

Seniors                  10 hours per semester; 20 hours total

Juniors                   6 hours per semester ; 12 hours total

Sophomores        5 hours per semester; 10 hours total

Freshmen             3 hours per semester; 6 hours total

 * The number of hours of community service must reflect a percentage of the Bible grade.  The percentage is 10% of the 2nd semester Bible grade.

The minimum number of hours each year is as stated above.  If a student has a total of 16 hours his freshman year, the student still needs to meet the 10 hour requirement his sophomore year.  We want to make community service a part of their lives each year.  The 16 hours would still count towards the graduation minimum requirement.

Graduation Requirement:

The requirement of community service hours for graduation needs to reflect the minimum of each year the student attends TCHS.  i.e. four years: 48 hours; three years: 42 hours, etc.

Mission Trips (during schoolyear) Sixteen hours per day can be counted towards community service.  The hours for training, traveling, and the mission experience itself count for hours served.

Mission Trips (during summer) The same criteria is used as during the school year.  The hours accumulated during the summer count towards the student’s next year at TCHS.
