LADY EAGLES DEFEAT TURLOCK HIGH!

Thursday, August 25, 2005

In the season opener for both clubs, Turlock Christian’s Lady Eagles downed the Turlock High Bulldogs in 5 games (25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 21-25, 15-12)!  The victory was the biggest regular season win in school history as it comes against a historically strong, cross town program.  A large crowd watched as the two teams battled in 5 tight games.

Game 1 saw TC come out a little shakey and fall behind 12-10 before rallying to win 25-21.  Lyndzie Spycher contributed 5 of her 16 kills in this game to give the Lady Eagles the early advantage in the match.

In game 2 TC never trailed getting the early lead and maintaining it throughout the game.  Spycher added 4 kills in this game to go with newcomer Mallory Iltis who added 3 kills as well.  The play at the net was a key reason for the success in this game as not only were they able to score off of kills, they added 6 blocks between Alicen Falkenberg and Spycher.

Game 3 & 4 saw Turlock get back into match as the Eagles struggled with some service errors and missed opportunities on kill chances.  Even though these games were tough losses the front row continued to play strong and get scoring opportunities because of some nice setting by Michelle Reagor.

With the match knotted at 2-2, Senior Captian Jill Baker (a recent early signee with Azusa Pacific) called the team together and exerted herself, picking up the team enthusiasm and setting the tempo for the 5th and final game.

Game 5 saw TC take an early 3-0 lead only to see Turlock comeback and tie the score at 7’s, 8’s, and 9’s.  At this point the Eagles began to pull away behind the serving of Reagor and Spycher.  Fittingly, the match ended on a Baker kill.  In the final game, 13 of the 15 points scored by TC were earned with 6 kills, 5 aces, and 2 blocks.

What a great way for the defending section champions to start their year!  This should be a lot of fun.
